Welcome to Chameleon HQ

The children in Chameleon HQ are supported by Mrs. Sparks, Miss Day, Miss Gregory, Miss Judge and Mrs. Brown.

Our school day starts at 8:30am and we finish at 3:25pm


Spring 2

The second half of the spring term half term has included welcoming all the children back to school.

In English the children discovered a love of reading, creating and acting out their own plays. They also learned about writing biographies and autobiographies.

Maths learning covered Place value, Time, Money, Fractions, Area and Perimeter.

In Art we have learned about the artists Monster Chetwynd, Hito Steyerl, Steve McQueen, Anthea Hamilton, Jackson Pollock and Georgia O’Keefe.

Music this term has been discovering the different genres of music through the 20th century, listening to examples and researching the artists. We studied Pop, Funk, Disco, Hip Hop, and Indie music.

In DT we learned how to cook tomato ragu, fruity flapjacks, cheese and onion triangles, breakfast muffins, potato and spring onion cakes and hot cross buns. We also created a sampler using the running, half cross and cross stiches.

 

Spring 1

We have had another busy half term in Chameleon HQ, with a mixture of remote and in school learning for most of our pupils.

This half term we have been learning about our brains and how they work and focusing on social skills such as listening to others, telling the truth and accepting consequences of our actions.

In Science we have been learning about Forces including gravity, air & water resistance, and friction.

Music this term has been discovering the different genres of music through the 20th century, listening to examples and researching the artists. We studied Jazz, Big band, Swing, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll.

In Art we have learned about the artists Barbara Hepworth, Escher, Lubiana Himid, Henry Moore, Rachel Whiteread and David Hockney

In DT we learned how to cook mini fruit cakestropical granola bars, bubble and squeak, marble pear tray bake and macaroni cheese.

English involved daily reading and writing stories and book & film reviews

For Maths we learned about place value, fractions, measurements and creating graphs.


Autumn 2

Our English learning consisted of daily reading on MyOn, weekly Spellzone sessions and developing our newspaper and persuasive writing skills. 

Maths topics included measurement - (length, time and capacity) and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

Our Science topic was the human body and we learned about the muscular, skeletal and digestive systems.

For Art, we learned about the artists Maria Merz, Vincent Van Gogh, Geroges Seurat, Claude Monet, Andy Warhol and Gustav Klimt 

In Geography we learned more about the countries of America, Italy, and Austria.

In Cookery we learned how to make pizza, Dutch apple cake, croque monsieur, pancakes, club sandwich, spiced biscuits, and hot chocolate stirrers.

Autumn 1

During the first half of the autumn term we have studied a different country and artist each week. So far we have learned about: Switzerland & Paul Klee, Russia & Wassily Kandinsky, The Netherlands & Piet Mondrian, Nigeria & Yinka Shonibare, France & Henri Matisse, and England  & Chris Ofili

In our English lessons we read and write every day.
Our classbooks have included Fantastic Mr Fox and George's Marvellous Medicine by the wonderful Roald Dahl. The children also use the school library to choose their own book and use MyOn to support their reading skills.
In our writing we have learned about adjectives, time connectives, punctuation, adverbs and used all of those skills to write spooky stories.
 
Our topics in Maths lessons this half term have been:
Place value, rounding and comparing numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We use TTRockstars to support the children's knowledge and understanding of times tables.
 
In Science we have learned about different life cycles
We have studied the life cycles of amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds and insects.
 
Each week we spend time in the cookery room.
We have made chocolate chip cookies, cheese straws, fairy cakes, bacon twists, mini quiche, scones and biscuits.
