We would just like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to West Moors Middle School. We are delighted that you will be joining Year 5 in September 2020, ready to start a new exciting adventure. We are all very much looking forward in sharing this stage of your learning journey.
Please keep your eye on this page as we will be adding letters and videos with further helpful information over the next few weeks. As it stands, Transfer Day for new Year 5s will be the 9th and 10th of July. We can’t wait to meet you all then and we have lots of fun activities planned. If for any reason, you can’t attend the transfer day, then something will be organised for you virtually.
We have set aside the evening of the 14th of July for a parents’ induction meeting where you will meet some of the staff and have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. We will confirm nearer these dates that they are definitely going ahead.
We hope that you enjoy the virtual tour provided by our Head Teacher, Dr Craddock and the video introducing you to Mrs Burns and Miss Willis, our two, experienced Year 5 teachers.

Academic Support
At West Moors Middle School we believe that every child has the right to access the curriculum through effective differentiation, ensuring that all children are the best that they can be. We are also aware that, for some children, this may mean that they have in class support or specialist equipment. When assessing individual needs we believe that it is essential to liaise with the parents/ carers, children and the teachers to ensure that we are supporting them to work as independently as possible and thereby build on their sense of achievement and self-esteem.
Our teaching team will use a range of strategies and monitor the progress of students carefully to identify any further provision or support that may be required. This will be reviewed and discussed with parents at regular intervals throughout the Academic Year. Our staff have been in regular contact with staff from our feeder schools to be as informed as possible regarding the needs of our new students. Mrs Tai, the SENCo, will be contacting all parents over the next few weeks to introduce herself and to discuss any concerns relating to transition that students and parents may have.
We understand that changing schools, especially in the current situation, will be quite distressing for some children who may be feeling very nervous and anxious. This is why we have created a booklet with the key information for our new pupils and their families. The booklet will allow children to familiarise themselves with the school if they have not already visited and to know who the key staff are that they can come and speak to if they would like to talk to someone.
Here are a few photographs of our progress so far! The brambles are gone and the fencing has been replaced ? The second phase of the project will now begin... exciting times!
